The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly this week adopted a resolution naming three of its facilities. The decision was made after numerous amendments and splitting of the motion.
The Borough Facilities Naming Committee initially suggested the sites be named the Ketchikan Aquatic Center, the Valley Park Field, and the Fawn Mountain Track and Field. The assembly rejected those names in February, hoping new suggestions would be submitted by Monday’s meeting.
Assembly member Agnes Moran introduced an amendment naming the pool the “Gateway” Aquatic Center rather than the “Ketchikan” Aquatic Center. She said this would keep the naming consistent with the adjacent Gateway Recreation Center.
The assembly voted 5-2 in favor of the amendment with Assembly Members Glen Thompson and Mike Salazar voting against.
