The U.S. Coast Guard has released video footage of the rescue of a fisherman who spent Friday night adrift in a fish tote off the shore of Kruzof Island.
According to KCAW in Sitka, Ryan Harris was crewing the Kaitlin Rae, which capsized and sank without warning. The boat’s skipper, Stonie “Mac” Huffman, managed to get into a survival suit. Huffman was hoisted from the beach at Pt. Amelia.
The ordinance officially recognizes cash, in-kind and on-behalf contributions to the school district. Some of the details that caused concern among school district officials include how much the district is charged for shared facilities, such as athletic fields and the borough pool. more
Lybrand, a World War II veteran, founded Southeast Engineering in Ketchikan in 1982. He first entered local politics in 1987, when he won a seat on the Ketchikan City Council. He served four years on that body, as well as a couple terms on the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly. more
Hopefully, I’ll be putting the garden to bed in the next week. Thought that it would get done this past weekend, but the bees showed up-lots of bees- and it seemed that the right thing to do was to leave the bees alone in their work. Many vegetables in the garden bolted /flowered this last month, hence the bees.
All the carrots are harvested and the celery is just about ready to harvest, too. Lettuces and chard are going into the garden for the fall planting along side the kale. All of these plants like cooler weather.
Now, we wait patiently for the new garlic bulbs to arrive.
