Metlakatla awarded $50K federal housing grant

The Alaska Congressional Delegation recently announced grants to various programs in Alaska. Among the grants was a $50,000 Housing Preservation grant to the Metlakatla Housing Authority.
The grant will help the authority repair eight homes owned by low-income elders in that community.
Other grants will help other Alaska communities improve their communication and internet access; support post-secondary education programs in Anchorage and Barrow; and purchase bulletproof vests for 15 jurisdictions throughout the state.
Julie Isom has been named the new executive director of the Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce. Isom accepted the position on Tuesday and will replace outgoing director Chelsea Goucher. more
