Jackson Street closed tonight for trick-or-treating

Today is Halloween, and as is traditional in Ketchikan, Jackson Street will be closed to traffic between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., to allow safe trick-or-treating.
According to the borough’s Transit Department, the Green Line bus will use an alternative route during that time, taking Baranof Avenue to Jackson Street to 4th Avenue, using a temporary bus stop at 4th and Jefferson. After 8:30, the bus will resume its normal route.
House District 36 Rep. Dan Ortiz is worried about the repercussions of some proposed state budget cuts, especially cuts that could lead to reduced revenue for the state, such as those to the state timber program and the Alaska Marine Highway System. more
