The U.S. Forest Service has issued an emergency closure order for Sandy Beach Road, also called Forest Service Road 30, on Prince of Wales Island.

According to the Forest Service, a culvert failed at mile 28.4, the Sal Creek crossing, and the road must be closed in that area for safety reasons.

No motor vehicle traffic is allowed within 50 feet from either direction. Foot traffic also is prohibited because the road above the culvert could collapse. The closure remains in effect until further notice.
