POWCAC approves project priority list

The Prince of Wales Island Community Advisory Committee last week approved a new resolution listing the island’s transportation project priorities for consideration by state and federal officials.

The resolution includes some projects that had been listed previously. They include repairs or upgrades to roads throughout Prince of Wales; plus a new road connecting Ratz Harbor and Eagle Creek.

Other projects listed in the resolution are improvements at Frank Peratrovich Airport, road access to mines and hydroelectric dams, expanded parking at the ferry terminal, a public transit system, multi-use paths next to busy roads, and a new Prince of Wales Island visitor center.

The POW advisory committee comprises representatives from the island’s communities. It has no regulatory powers, and the resolution still must be approved by POW’s various governing bodies.
