Craig girls, Klawock boys win top honors at state

Two Prince of Wales Island basketball teams are bringing home trophies from the state tournament in Anchorage.

The Craig Lady Panthers won the 2A state final Wednesday, with a score of 31 to 29 over Dillingham. Here is the last minute of that game, which KRBD aired live to Prince of Wales communities. Ken Owens is the announcer:

Also Wednesday, the Klawock Chieftains ended the 1A championship game with a 55-43 win over Noorvik. KRBD aired a live broadcast of that game, as well, and here are the last few moments, with announcer Nick Nickerson.

The Metlakatla Chiefs made it to the 2A boys finals, but they weren’t able to hold off Hooper Bay. They beat Met 51-28 Wednesday night. The state tournament continues in Anchorage, with 3A and 4A teams competing through the weekend.

Rescue squad stays ready for the next emergency

The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad was the first group on the scene of a deadly float plane crash in Misty Fjords more than a month ago. The rescue squad didn't disband after that mission, however. They're still training, making sure they’re prepared for the next time someone needs their help.
