Veterans, AMHS, young dancers win parade honors

The Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the annual Fourth of July parade awards.

Judges unanimously bestowed the Patriotic Spirit Award to the VFW.

The award for best embodiment of the theme went to the Alaska Marine Highway for its representation of the ferry Fairweather. The theme this year was H2O, an acronym for Highway to Our Future.

The Spirit of Ketchikan Award for the best expression of overall talent went to the kids from Studio Max.

There were several honorable mentions for that last category. They were musher Angie Taggart, the Gymnastics Club, the Class of 2014 and the Rainforest Rollergirls.

School Board approves 3-year teachers’ contract

Revilla Alternative School is part of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District.
The agreement provides raises for teachers in each of the three years: One percent for the first year, retroactive to July 1, and 2.5 percent for each of the subsequent years of the contract. more
