Forss Avenue fire update

Before firefighters arrived at the house fire on Forss Avenue Thursday, neighbors used garden hoses to wet down an area between houses. (Photo by Carol Lagodich)

Here’s a quick update on the house fire Thursday. Alaska State Troopers have identified the woman in the downstairs apartment who died during the fire as Sue Willis, 77, who formerly lived in Washington state.

Next of kin were on scene.

We have a correction for the report we aired Thursday evening and Friday morning. The property is owned by Carl and Lisa Thompson, according to Ketchikan Gateway Borough assessment records, rather than by the Calvin family, as originally reported. The Calvins rented the upstairs portion of the home.
