State flags to be lowered Tuesday for Fred Brown

Gov. Sean Parnell announced Monday that state flags will be lowered on Tuesday in honor of former Representative Fred Brown.
Brown died on Friday at the age of 70.
First elected in 1974, Brown served four terms in the Alaska House of Representatives. He represented Fairbanks, and was an active member of that community.
State flags will be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday. Flags should return to full-staff on Wednesday.
Four people applied for that vacancy, and were interviewed by the School Board on Wednesday. The candidates were Diane Gubatayao, retired teacher Daniel Dodson, student board member Gerik Sherrill and Carl Webb, who served previously on the School Board. more
