State flags to be lowered Tuesday for Fred Brown

Gov. Sean Parnell announced Monday that state flags will be lowered on Tuesday in honor of former Representative Fred Brown.
Brown died on Friday at the age of 70.
First elected in 1974, Brown served four terms in the Alaska House of Representatives. He represented Fairbanks, and was an active member of that community.
State flags will be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday. Flags should return to full-staff on Wednesday.
A resolution urging the International Joint Commission to get involved in the issue of transboundary mines will be in front of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly on Monday. more
The state Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified a body from last week’s house fire as that of the resident, 49-year-old Ralph Smith of Ketchikan. more
