A California couple faces multiple felony drug charges after allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 55 grams of methamphetamine into Ketchikan.
55-year-old Lisa Soares and her 52-year-old fiancé, William Riggs, are both charged with two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third and fourth degrees, B and C felonies.
According to court documents, Ketchikan police stopped Soares after she arrived on the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry. Police allegedly discovered 57.2 grams of methamphetamine in her possession, as well as a digital scale, small baggies and four used pipes. Soares allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine with Riggs two days before. The authorities then searched Riggs’ truck and say they found small baggies in bulk hidden in the cab and bed.
Bail was set for the couple at $50,000 each, and they are both scheduled to appear again on Sept. 25th.
