Last week, the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus honored a dozen students who completed the Maritime and Multi-Skilled Worker program.

The 12-week program is offered each fall, with full-day classes each weekday. Those classes include basic welding, diesel engines, marine electrical systems, hydraulics and refrigeration.

The 12 students completed 16 to 19 university credits.

The students also all passed the U.S. Coast Guard Qualified Member of the Engine Department certification exam. That certification will allow them to work on board vessels, including Alaska Marine Highway System ferries.

Graduating MMSW students are Santana Atkinson, Tod Baseden, Kaleb Booth, Keith Brown, Kyle Leavy, Ian Lendrum, Christina McGilton, Darren McKeehan, Ron Mello, Max Miller, Michael Minnich and Dale Plate.
