Ketchikan Public Utilities Telecommunications Division’s KPU-TV has won two Best of the Northwest awards from the Alliance for Community Media.

According to KPU, the city-owned television station won for overall excellence in public, educational or government programming. A second award went to KPU in the community involvement category. According to KPU, that was for the “Live In Ketchikan’s Ultimate Outdoor Challenge” production, a cooperative project that also involved students and a local business.

Three additional KPU-TV productions won honorable mentions: a domestic violence documentary titled “Unheard Voices, Unheard Wisdom;” coverage of Fight Night 2014; and a television commercial called “This is Ketchikan.”

The annual awards contest is for community access or local television channels in the Northwest, including Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

The awards will be presented at the Alliance for Community Media’s Northwest Regional Conference on March 28th, in Tukwila, Wash.
