Two of the three candidates who had filed for the one-year Ketchikan City Council seat open this election have withdrawn their candidacies.

City Clerk Katy Suiter announced Monday afternoon that Chuck Slagle and George Lybrand each submitted letters announcing their withdrawal from the race.

Lybrand has had recent health problems. Slagle said Monday that he realized he didn’t have the time to commit to doing the job properly.

The third candidate, Julie Isom, now is uncontested for the position.

In her Monday announcement, Suiter writes that the ballots already had been printed for the October 6th election, so Slagle and Lybrand’s names still will be on the ballots. However, because they officially have withdrawn, no votes for either of those candidates will count.
