Ketchikan Superior Court Judge Trevor Stephens has been reappointed as the presiding judge for the state’s First Judicial District, which covers Southeast Alaska.
At the close of each year, the Chief Justice of the Alaska Supreme Court appoints presiding judges for the coming calendar year. In addition to Stephens’ reappointment, Chief Justice Craig Stowers appointed Judge Paul Roetman as the presiding judge for the Second Judicial District, Judge William Morse for the Third Judicial District, and Judge Michael MacDonald for the Fourth.
In addition to their regular duties, presiding judges have administrative responsibilities, including assigning cases, reviewing and recommending budgets, and reviewing operations of trial courts in the district to make sure they’re following statewide policies.
Judge Stephens became a Superior Court Judge in 2000. Before that, he worked in private practice, as Assistant Public Defender, as Assistant District Attorney and as District Attorney.
