Ketchikan Construction Academy is now accepting applications for the 2013 Academy. The Ketchikan Construction Academy provides basic construction training at no cost for adults who are 18 years and older and are seeking skills that may lead to good paying jobs in the construction industry. Training is free but space is limited. To apply you must attend one of several orientation sessions at the Ketchikan Job Service Center. Sessions will be held Wednesdays at 5:30pm October 17th through November 14th or at noon on Thursdays October 25th through November 15th. The Kayhi Lady Kings 3 X 3 Tournament is this weekend at the Ketchikan High School gym. Doors open at 11:30am followed by grades 6th and under and 7th-9th grade competing; Men’s and Women’s open run from 5pm-9pm. There is no admission charge. 8:00 am AMSEA Fishing Vessel Safety Training
Safety Training Offered for Commercial Fishermen in KetchikanAlaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) will offer a two-day, 18-hour fishing vessel safety and drill conductor course in Ketchikan Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1, 2012. This course meets the training requirements for commercial fishing vessels. It is available FREE to commercial fishermen thanks to funding from the USCG and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Participants practice hands-on in the water and on a vessel, with emergency equipment that should be onboard any commercial fishing or other sizeable vessel — PFDs, life rafts, immersion suits, EPIRBs, fire extinguishers, and practice emergency procedures like man overboard, abandon ship, fire fighting and flooding control.
