V-Day "One Billion Rising"
Date: February, 14th 2013 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
February 14th marks the 15th anniversary of V-Day, a worldwide walk/dance out to raise awareness about violence against women. Globally, one in three women will be victims of physical or sexual assault and Ketchikan is participating in this worldwide event to stand up together against this injustice.
Both men and women are invited to attend this demonstration from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. We will gather at the corner of Tongass Avenue and Jefferson Street in the First Bank parking lot.
Bring posters with either statistics about violence against women, why you are rising, current events involving violence against women, facts about WISH, Ketchikan, or Alaska, or something else. WISH will provide posters as well. The V-Day colors are red, pink, black and white.
For more information visit the V-Day website at: www.vday.org
Music will be playing for optional dancing, and some dances will be performed. If you are interested in participating in the flash mob dance, contact Aftan Lynch, WISH prevention specialist, at 228-4090
