The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two men after their vessel capsized this morning.
A small response boat was sent to Tongass Narrows north of Ketchikan after the fishing vessel Freedom capsized. The Coast Guard command center in Juneau received 911 reports of the two men sitting on top of the overturned vessel. Kelly Parker is a public affairs officer for the Coast Guard based out of Kodiak.
“The two boaters weren’t wearing life jackets, and also the incident happened fairly close to a rescue boat station, so we were able to get to them pretty quickly,” Parker said.
The boaters were taken to shore without injury, and a local salvage company towed the boat to port for repairs.
