A 42-year-old woman was medevaced off of a fishing vessel near Noyes Island last Thursday.

Around 11:40 that morning, the Coast Guard received a call from Craig City Harbormaster staff saying a member of the crew onboard a fishing boat was bleeding and in and out of consciousness after she was hit on the head.

A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka. A Craig City Harbormaster crew also responded aboard a 25-foot boat and met the crew of the fishing vessel Western Cruiser near Cape Ulitka on the north end of Noyes Island. The Jayhawk crew arrived shortly after.

According to a Coast Guard press release, the harbormaster crew dropped off an EMT upon arrival and the woman’s bleeding was under control by the time the Coast Guard crew arrived.

The woman was transported by helicopter to Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka for further care.
