Tia lives and was raised in Metlakatla. She is the S’ndooyntgm Galts’ap (Community Garden) champion for the past four years, and chairs the Metlakatla School Board.

Tia started a small local non-profit years ago called Alaska Native Girls to help empower women, and lower the statistics of domestic violence against women — particularly Alaska Native women. She also helps her husband with his non-profit, Liwaayda, and serves on the Liwaayda board as treasurer.

Tia is a new KRBD board member, and excited to work toward strengthening ties between neighboring communities in Southeast Alaska.

“I am very passionate about making the world a better place. I come from a wonderful family of kind people and believe in giving back what you can where you can and I strive to do that every day,” Tia writes. “I am a mother to four beautiful children, and a wife to an amazing man. I am a lover of the wild outdoors and all the exciting adventures Alaska has to offer. I am a gatherer of traditional medicinal plants and foods, and a dreamer of a better tomorrow.”
