With car horns honking and cruise ship passengers walking by, peaceful protestors of all ages lined the sidewalks in downtown Ketchikan near the federal building and across the street at Whale Park. Participants waved signs with sayings such as “When Tyranny Becomes Law, Resistance Becomes Duty,” “Make America Kind Again,” “The Constitution is No Suggestion,” and “The Only Good King is a Salmon.”

Carrying a bullhorn, David Katz led chants.

Katz: “What do we say to the world that’s watching?”

Crowd: “Donald Trump is not our king!”

“(I’m) Susan Walsh. Protesting no kings in America. Democracy. Standing for Democracy.”

(singing of “This Land is Your Land).

“(I’m) Dan Patton. I just want to show my support for resistance to this approach to leading America. I don’t like this approach. It’s not American.”

A truck with pro-Trump flags was parked nearby, and a few people carried signs in support of the President. Then a Tesla Cybertruck cruised in front of the crowd in what looked like the start of a counter-protest, but even this driver held a sign that read “No Kings.”
