Ketchikan residents hoping for a seat in local government can pick up their paperwork beginning July 1. Candidate filing forms for Ketchikan municipal offices will be available online or in person at city and borough offices.
One of those seats is Borough Mayor. That’s a three-year term. The seat is currently held by Mayor Rodney Dial. His term ends this year.
There are three seats opening up on the Borough Assembly currently held by assembly members Alan Bailey, Austin Otos and Glen Thompson. That leaves two three-year seats and a one-year seat open.
Candidates have to have lived in the Borough for at least a year and been registered to vote in the Borough for at least a month before the election to qualify.
Three members of the Ketchikan school board have also stepped down over the last year. Meaning there are two 3-year seats and one 2-year seat open on the Ketchikan School Board.
Applicants for the Assembly and School Board have to file a declaration of candidacy. They also have to collect at least 10 signatures from qualified Borough voters. That includes residents of Saxman and Ketchikan.
On the city side, there are two, 3-year terms open on the City Council. Those seats are currently held by Abby Bradberry and Lallette Kistler.
City Council candidates must have resided in the city of Ketchikan for at least one year and be at least 18 years old. Applicants also must submit a completed declaration of candidacy and collect at least 10 signatures from qualified City voters.
All candidates – City and Borough – must complete and submit a 2025 APOC Public Official Financial Disclosure Statement.
Applicants for Ketchikan’s municipal offices can begin filing that paperwork on August 1. The filing period for candidacy closes August 25.
