One person was injured and at least one pet died in a residential fire in the 6700 block of Roosevelt Drive in Ketchikan Monday morning.
The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m. and crews arrived on the scene around five minutes later.
One person was transported to the hospital with severe burns. At the time of the fire, three animals were believed to be inside the residence. One is confirmed dead and as of 2 p.m. Monday, two remain unaccounted for.
The fire was contained a little after 1:00 p.m. and crews remained on the scene to monitor for any hot spots. Volunteer fire departments from both South and North Tongass responded, along with crews from the City.
The south end of Roosevelt Drive was closed to traffic and expected to reopen by 4 p.m. Monday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
