Several Republican candidates for governor were in Ketchikan last Friday, August 1, to attend a Republican potluck. One of those candidates is Republican state senator Shelley Hughes of Palmer. Hughes has been a member of the Senate since 2017. KRBD spoke with her outside Ketchikan’s downtown fire station where the Blueberry Arts Festival Pet and Doll Parade had just ended. Hughes was asked about her priorities and her views on the Alaska Marine Highway System and affordable housing. An excerpt from that interview played during the KRBD Evening Report and Morning Edition. Here is the complete interview.

KRBD also interviewed two other Republican candidates who were in Ketchikan last weekend – Matt Heilala and Bernadette Wilson. We will feature those interviews in the coming days.
