Several Republican candidates for governor were in Ketchikan last weekend, August 1-3, to attend a Republican potluck and the Blueberry Arts Festival.

Political newcomer Matt Heilala, a retired Anchorage podiatrist, is one of those candidates. KRBD’s spoke with Heilala on Main Street during the festival. He explained why he feels suited to serve as governor, and his views on the Alaska Marine Highway System and affordable housing.

KRBD also interviewed two other Republican candidates in Ketchikan last weekend – Shelley Hughes and Bernadette Wilson. Hughes’ interview aired August 5 and can be listened to through a link on our website at www.krbd.org. Wilson’s interview will air in the coming days.
