Alaska State Troopers investigated the death of a deer hunter on Prince of Wales Island. 72-year-old William Alfaro of California was out deer hunting with another person on August 27th near Craig when he collapsed. He was not breathing and had no pulse, so his companion called the emergency into Craig officials. Emergency responders from Craig and search and rescue volunteers from Klawock responded. Alaska State Troopers were also called.
Medics pronounced Alfaro dead at the scene. Because the hunting area was remote and had challenging terrain, Troopers approved a helicopter with the company Temsco to remove Alfaro from the site.
Troopers found no foul play, and Alfaro’s body was released to his family.
