Communities on Prince of Wales Island are gearing up for their city elections next Tuesday. 

In Craig, on the western side of the island, Kasey Smith and Josh Bennett are vying for a two-year seat as the city’s mayor. There are also two 3-year seats open on city council and school board. 

To the north, in Klawock, there is an uncontested race for the city’s mayor and two city council seats. There are also three openings on the city’s school board, one of which has no candidates running for it. 

Hydaburg has numerous seats up for election. There are three openings on city council, all of which have uncontested races. There’s two openings on the city’s school board as well. 

Across the island, in Thorne Bay, there are three uncontested races for seats on city council. North, in Coffman Cove, there are two seats up for grabs on the city council.

Closer to Ketchikan, Saxman has its own city election. There are two uncontested races for seats on the city council. Those running are Denny Blair Jr. and Norman Natkong Sr. 

Election day is Oct. 7.
