Ketchikan’s Emergency Operations Center will be testing its emergency siren systems on Wednesday as part of a disaster training exercise. The alerts will include a verbal message broadcast, according to a written statement from Ketchikan Public Utilities or KPU.
The sirens will go off at three locations simultaneously – Ketchikan’s fire station on Bawden Street, Bailey Powerhouse near A&P Market on Tongass Avenue, and in the City of Saxman. The city says the alarms will be sounded between 11 and 11:15 a.m., with the possibility of a second alarm sounding soon after.
The statement says the purpose of this test is to “ensure the reliability and effectiveness of the siren and communication systems in the event of an actual emergency.” Public action is not required.
