The Ketchikan Police Department has seized about 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine that was shipped by mail to Ketchikan.
Investigators with the regional drug enforcement task force, Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs, or SEACAD, identified a suspicious package late last week. That ended up being $315,960 worth of drugs.
That package was then delivered and opened at a residence on the 1000 block of Dunton Street.
Police also found a firearm in the suspect’s home, which was seized during the investigation. The man was placed under arrest and taken to the Ketchikan Correctional Center.
The suspect has been charged with three counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the 4th degree, and two counts of misconduct involving weapons in the 3rd degree.
The Ketchikan Police Department couldn’t be immediately reached, and the suspect’s defense attorney Sam Tureff declined to comment. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday at the Ketchikan Courthouse.
