A Ketchikan man was sentenced Tuesday to five years in jail with the potential to serve 20 more after being charged with 37 counts of possessing child sex abuse materials.

Twenty-three-year-old Logan Ohmer was charged on 18 counts in 2022. That’s after the Ketchikan Police Department received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Then, the state Department of Law announced on Wednesday that Ohmer was charged with an additional 19 counts last year after police learned he accessed more child sex abuse material while awaiting trial. That equates to 37 counts in total.

The investigations “yielded an enormous amount of illicit content,” according to the press release.

The Department of Law says that Ohmer was watching, collecting and trading child sex abuse material as leverage to acquire more material. In a plea deal in June, Ohmer pleaded guilty to two single, consolidated counts of possessing child sex abuse materials. The rest of the charges were dismissed.

Ketchikan Superior Court Judge Katherine Lybrand presided over the case.

Ohmer was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 years with 20 years suspended. After serving the time, he’ll have 10 years of supervised probation. He’s also required to register as a sex offender for life.
