The Ketchikan City Council has selected its new manager after a final round of public interviews Saturday morning. Keith Morey will oversee local government operations and utility programs.
Morey comes from Provo, Utah, where he most recently served as the city’s Development Services Assistant Director and the Director of Economic Development and Redevelopment. He has over 30 years of experience in government positions, including as a city manager, assistant city manager and community development director.
Mayor Bob Sivertsen called the hiring process “long, but fruitful.”
“The council weighed all the comments and answers and made a decision based on what they feel is the best fit for the community of Ketchikan,” Sivertsen said.
There was no discussion after the council announced the selection.
During Morey’s interview, council members expressed they want someone who can integrate and invest their time in the community for the long term. Morey said he and his wife are ready to do that. He said they have “already fallen in love with Ketchikan” during their stay last week, when Morey met with city officials and utility operators.
The city is currently working with Morey on contract negotiations. The earliest he could be officially hired is at the City Council meeting on January 7.
