A man found dead on a Pennock Island beach last week has been identified by the State Medical Examiner. 47-year-old Ketchikan resident Jeremiah Hayward was confirmed to have died by accidental drowning.
Pennock Island is around a half-mile across the water from Ketchikan and investigators say it is unclear how he got there. He is believed to have been unhoused. Alaska State Troopers and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene on Dec. 30. Hayward’s family has been notified.
