Two incumbents and one newcomer were elected to seats on the Ketchikan Indian Community’s Tribal Council on Monday, according to preliminary election results. 

Ali Ginter, who also serves on the Ketchikan School Board, beat out vice president Gianna Willard. Incumbents Judy Leask Guthrie and Lloyd Ruaro will remain on the council for another three year term. 

Lloyd Ruaro received the highest number of votes, with 196 votes, followed by Ali Ginter with 194 and Judy Leask Guthrie with 186. 

Other candidates in the running were Carrie Dodson, who received 137 votes, Gianna Willard, who received 117 votes, Ginger McCormick with 108 votes, Darryl Simons with 75 votes and Frederick Williams with 45 votes.

455 ballots were cast in the election. There were no ballot measures.

At KIC’s annual meeting Monday afternoon, three community members were recognized by the tribe. Bert Hamilton was selected as Elder of the Year, Gerald Guthrie was selected as KIC employee of the year and Saxman mayor Frank Seludo was awarded Citizen of the Year.

Election results will be finalized at a special meeting next Monday. The council will also have their annual reorganization to vote for a vice president, secretary and treasurer.
