The Boys & Girls Club of Southcentral Alaska, which operates clubhouses in Ketchikan and Metlakatla, has temporarily paused clubhouse and athletic operations.

Kelp and oysters are growing in farms throughout southern Southeast Alaska, yet there’s a limited supply of seeds to grow those farms. But a small-scale commercial seed hatchery in Ketchikan could soon expand its operations if it receives a more than a half million dollar mariculture grant.

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough’s public transit system provides low-cost rides to nearly 500,000 passengers annually. But in the last year and a half, it also served as a lifeline for connecting students and borough residents to their homes following two major landslides.
