Southeast numbers up and continue to rise

For the first time in about two decades, the annual Southeast “By The Numbers” report from Juneau-based research firm Sheinberg Associates gave a somewhat rosy picture of the region’s economy.

Assembly: Reconsider project priority list

The Lobbying Executive Committee will reconvene Friday to reconsider a list of community project priorities. On Monday, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly agreed to compromise on what has been a contentious issue involving the borough, the City of Ketchikan and the City of Saxman.

Council to consider energy conservation contract

The City of Ketchikan is one step closer to implementing an energy conservation program. The Ketchikan City Council meets in regular session Thursday night and will review an item to move forward with a contract negotiation with an energy consulting firm.

A 29-year-old Metlakatla man arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder allegedly admitted to stabbing 67-year-old Leona Meely multiple times during a fight at their shared home in Metlakatla.

KRBD hands out awards, dedicates air room

KRBD-FM community radio’s membership meeting and potluck was well-attended Saturday evening. The annual awards were augmented by a ceremony dedicating the station’s air room to one of KRBD’s founders, Tom Miller, who died this spring.
