Craig and Klawock will have a disruption in their radio signal from KRBD beginning Sunday April 19th, while we upgrade our equipment and how we receive our signal. We are hopeful that the outage will be short–from a few days to a week and a half.

KRBD can still be streamed via our web page or your favorite smart speaker, and is still available via the KRBD app. If you don’t yet have our app, it is available for both Apple and Android phones. Just search for KRBD in your phone’s app store.

This newer equipment will provide much better audio and an overall improved radio experience for our listeners. This is part of our commitment to serve the communities of southern Southeast Alaska–a vital part of our mission.

KRBD’s Spring Pledge Drive raised more than $42,000 in just two days — a testament to the deep roots this station has in our community. Whether you donated, went on-air, stopped by, or just showed up with snacks: thank you. Genuinely.

Now we need one final push.

Our goal is $50,000 by April 5th, and we are about $8,000 away. If you haven’t yet made a gift, this is the moment. Every donation, $10 a month, $20 a month, whatever feels right to you, closes that gap and keeps KRBD independent, local, and fully yours.

During the drive, we talked honestly about what’s changed: federal funding for public radio is gone, and stations like ours are navigating that reality in real time. We’re not stepping back from our mission — we’re doubling down on it.

That includes a roughly $20,000 equipment upgrade on Prince of Wales Island, happening as soon as weather allows. It’s a significant commitment in an uncertain moment, and we’re making it because the communities we serve, Ketchikan, Saxman, Metlakatla, Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg, Thorne Bay, and everyone in between, deserve nothing less.

KRBD exists because this community believes local news and information matter. You’ve shown that belief in extraordinary ways this spring.

Call for Artists: KRBD 50th Birthday T‑Shirt & Event Logo

KRBD invites artists to submit an original design for our 50th Birthday Party! On May 23, 2026, we will celebrate 50 years of community radio in Southern Southeast Alaska with Live Day performances and an evening dance party at the Ted Ferry Civic Center. The selected design will be featured in event publicity and printed on commemorative merchandise.

Guidelines

• All mediums are accepted. Submit physical artwork or digital files that can be reproduced clearly on shirts and print materials.
• Design must be new and not shown previously. No prior public display or commercial use.
• Required text: “KRBD Community Radio,” “2026,” “50 years,” and “Ketchikan, Alaska.”
• Original work only. No AI-generated designs, stock elements, or third-party trademarks.
• Camera-ready: Provide clean linework and high contrast so the design prints well on shirts and posters.
• Digital format: Preferred scalable vector file (EPS or PDF). High-resolution JPG is acceptable.
• Contact info required: Include your name, mailing address, phone, and email with your submission.
