The Ketchikan School Board is expected to appoint a new board member Wednesday during its regular meeting. The two applicants, Conan Steele and Matthew Tibbles, will interview for the position preceding the regular meeting. The Board officially accepted the resignation of Colleen Scanlon on February 25th , and has been working to fill the vacancy since.

The Board also will look at the latest version of the FY16 budget. According to Superintendent Robert Boyle’s report, some programs intended to be cut by the state Legislature are being partially restored, such as $14,000 for fresh fruits and vegetables. Boyle writes that he is hopeful about an extension to the district’s obesity grant.

The Board also expects some Japanese visitors at its meeting from the Ketchikan Kanayama-Gero exchange program.

Wednesday’s meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. with School Board applicant interviews. The regular session will begin at 6 p.m. in Borough Assembly chambers at the White Cliff Building. Public comment will be heard at the start and end of the meeting.
