The deadline for Ketchikan residents to submit exhibit pieces for the annual Southeast Alaska State Fair in Haines is coming up, and people interested in participating are encouraged to get their work ready to ship by July 13th.

Shipping pieces to the fair is free for those who get their items to Alaska Marine Lines between 9 a.m. and noon on July 13. According to fair spokeswoman Jessica Edwards, exhibit winners will have the option of having their submissions shipped for free directly from Haines to compete at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer.

Exhibit categories include beer and wine, preserved foods, crochet, knitting, needlework, fiber arts, quilting, sewing, fine arts and crafts, writing and music, photography, Native arts and more.

Submissions should be well packed in plastic tub-style containers, according to Edwards, and labeled with the contents and the participant’s name.
Submissions will be shipped back to Ketchikan at no charge to the participants, according to Edwards.

The Haines fair is July 26 through July 29. The Palmer fair is Aug. 23 through Sept. 3.
