The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has scheduled a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Ketchikan to provide information about the new North Pacific groundfish and halibut observer program.

The meeting is open to the public, but vessel owners, seafood processors and registered buyers are especially encouraged to attend. The goal of the meeting is to answer questions and address concerns about the program.

Some of the issues to be covered include changes to how observers are deployed, how the program is funded, and who must have all or some of their operations observed.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at noon at the Ted Ferry Civic Center.

Additional meetings are scheduled next week in Sitka and Juneau.
