Ketchikan local and Portland resident Sarasvati Hewitt is coming home to teach free yoga in Ketchikan and Metlakatla as part of the Southeast Alaska Yoga Project.

In Ketchikan, the classes will be held in the Ketchikan Public Library from noon to 1:30 p.m. all week. Evening classes will go from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. There will also be kids’ classes Thursday and Friday from 11 to 11:30 a.m. All classes will be in the library conference room.

Hewitt will also host yoga classes in Metlakatla September 15th through 17th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the A.N.G. office in the David Leask Town Hall.

All the yoga classes are free and open to everyone, regardless of skill or experience. Free yoga mats will be provided for participants to keep, They were donated by two Portland yoga studios.

The Southeast Alaska Yoga Project was founded by Hewitt and Juneau local Kris Myers. The project aims to bring yoga to communities in Southeast, as well as help potential yoga instructors learn more and begin training.
