Two Craig men were medevacked from Prince of Wales Island Monday after an alleged mid-morning fight with a third man, who has been charged with felony assault.

Craig Police Chief RJ Ely said his office received several 911 calls a little after 10 a.m. Monday.

“There were reports of a large fight, which turned out to be false. It was basically one individual, who had assaulted two other local individuals and then took off running,” Ely said.

The incident took place on Cold Storage Road, in a well-traveled section of Craig. Ely said the two victims were badly hurt.

“Both individuals, Burt Colegrove IV and Floyd Adkison, sustained large amount of facial damage, bruising, lots of blood,” he said.

According to the charging documents filed with Craig District Court, witnesses reported that the suspect, 23-year-old Tyler Locher, punched both men, knocking them to the ground. The witnesses said that Locher continued to punch both victims in the face and then stomped on their faces with his foot.

Ely says that 44-year-old Adkison and 35-year-old Colegrove were initially taken to the Alicia Roberts Medical Center nearby. Because of the extent of their injuries, they were then flown off the island for further treatment. Adkison went to Seattle, and Colegrove was taken to Sitka.

Locher was found and arrested. Police say he told them that the victims first hit him, and then he blacked out. He faces two counts of second-degree assault and is in custody at the Craig jail.
