This year’s Fourth of July Queen was recognized last week by the Ketchikan Lions Club.

Ingrid Anzueto is the first back-to-back queen contest winner, according to Lions Club member Glenn Brown.

Anzueto is a sophomore at Whitworth University in Spokane, studying philosophy and communications. She was born in Guatemala, and moved to Ketchikan with her family when she was very young.

In a written statement, she says living in Ketchikan taught her to appreciate all the small and big opportunities here.

The annual queen contest winner is chosen based on how many raffle tickets that individual is able to sell, along with community service and a talent competition. Proceeds from the raffle tickets support the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

As this year’s winner, Anzueto won a $2,000 scholarship.
