Candidate filing for Ketchikan’s October 6 municipal elections opened Monday. There are three 3-year seats open on the borough assembly and two 3-year seats on the school board. There are also three 3-year seats and one 1-year seat on the city council.
To run for election, a person must file a declaration of candidacy with at least 10 voter signatures. Candidates must also fill out a financial disclosure statement. Forms are available at the borough and city clerk’s office, and must be submitted by August 25.
Those interested in running must be a qualified voter. They must also be a city or borough resident for at least a year prior to filing. More information about candidate filing and Ketchikan’s upcoming municipal election can be found on the city and borough websites.
Election Day is October 6. Early voting opens two weeks prior to that.
As of 4 p.m. Monday, current borough assembly member Sharli Arntzen and Dan Ortiz, and city council member Jack Finnegan, are the only candidates who have filed to run. All three are vying for three-year seats.
