A Ketchikan man was hospitalized for hypothermia after being rescued from a remote area northeast of town last week.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers were called an area near Saddle Lakes, about 25 miles via gravel road from Ketchikan on Wednesday evening. They were responding to an SOS activation from a satellite communication device. According to Troopers, the man’s truck and ATV were found first.

Family members assisted in the search, which was temporarily suspended early Thursday morning.

The search resumed later Thursday morning by the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad. According to the organization’s Facebook page, the man found his way to a logging road and met a rescue squad member later that morning. The man was brought to the hospital in Ketchikan and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers did not release the man’s name.
