Ketchikan Presbyterian Church organist Agnes Royer has decided to retire, at the age of 92.

The Rev. George Pasley announced Royer’s retirement Tuesday, Dec. 9. He writes that her musical ministry began in the fall of 1948, just a few months after the arrival in Ketchikan of then-25-year-old Agnes King.

Sixty-six years later, Royer announced her official retirement this November.

Royer also is known to longtime Ketchikan residents as the Story Lady. For about 50 years, she read children’s stories every Saturday morning on local radio station KTKN.
