The Ketchikan Gateway Borough School Board on Wednesday will hold two public hearings during its regular meeting.

The first is on the FY16 budget. The annual budget must be adopted and submitted to the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly by May 1st, and have two readings before that. In first reading, the Board expects to hear from Schoenbar’s Dean of Students and school district counselors, whose positions could be at risk under the current budget proposal.

The second public hearing is about a proposed revision to Board Policy regarding a “Drug and Alcohol-Free Work Place”. The Board used the policy as background during a recent discussion about how the district might handle the recent legalization of marijuana. During the discussion, Board Member Stephen Bradford suggested rewording a few sentences for clarity, which is reflected in the revised policy.

Wednesday’s meeting will start at 6 p.m. in Borough Assembly chambers at the White Cliff building. Public comment will be heard at the start and end of the meeting.
