Ketchikan’s court system will be testing a new online questionnaire for jury duty.

Starting this month, local residents who are summoned for jury service will receive a postcard with instructions on how to access the online questionnaire. If a juror doesn’t have access to the Internet, the postcard provides information about how to obtain a paper version.

Previously, jurors received a paper questionnaire as part of their jury summons.

Alaska Supreme Court Chief Justice Dana Fabe said in a Wednesday news release that an online questionnaire was a priority for the state jury committee. Fabe says the goal is to make jury service as convenient as possible for Alaskans.

The court system plans to have the online questionnaire available statewide by the end of this year.
