An 18-year-old Thorne Bay man has died from injuries he sustained in a June 20th vehicle accident on Boundary Road near Klawock on Prince of Wales Island.

According to an online Alaska State Troopers dispatch, John Botello died just before 8 Friday morning at a hospital in Washington State. Next of kin have been notified.

The accident took place a little after 5 a.m. on June 20th. Troopers report that Botello was driving a 1993 Nissan pickup southbound on Boundary Road when he apparently crossed the center line.

Timothy Burns, 63, of Klawock, was northbound in a 1996 Kenworth logging truck, and the two vehicles hit nearly head-on.

Troopers say that Botello was not wearing a seatbelt. He was medivaced to Seattle for treatment of his extensive injuries.

Burns was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
