In late July, the Ketchikan Police Department received a report of a 15-year-old boy starting a fire inside the Ketchikan Residential Youth Center.

According to a KPD news release sent Wednesday, Aug. 4, at about 2 p.m. on July 22nd, the boy set a handful of paper towels on fire and threw them into an occupied bedroom, catching the carpet on fire.

The boy was charged with first-degree arson and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was transported to the Ketchikan Regional Youth Facility.
