The Ketchikan School Board on Wednesday will choose a temporary board member to fill a vacant seat for the next three months.
The vacancy was created when Board Member Misty Browne resigned in mid-July. Six people have applied to be appointed to the vacancy. Those applicants are Angela Nickich, Bill Blankenship, Deja Kolean, Jamie King, and former School Board members David Timmerman and Michelle O’Brien.
Each candidate will be interviewed by the Board on Wednesday before sitting Board members cast anonymous paper ballots listing their top three candidates, in order of preference.
If one applicant received at least four top rankings, a motion will be made to appoint that person. If nobody received at least four, the top three candidates will be placed into a second round of ballots. The process continues along those lines until they have one candidate with at least four supporting votes.
Whoever fills the seat will serve until the Oct. 3rd local election.
Wednesday’s School Board meeting starts at 6 p.m. in Borough Assembly chambers at the White Cliff building. Public comment will be heard at the start and end of the meeting.
